Washing your face in the shower is seriously damaging your skin, say experts

Use the sink.

Experts have thrown us a bit of a curve ball this morning, warning what washing our faces when we’re in the shower could be doing them some serious damage.

Say what?

Apparently, the temperature we like to languish under in the shower is so hot that it’s harmful to the delicate skin on our faces - turning it red and angry, dilating capillaries and drying it out. Which is the last thing we need this Arctic winter.

So if you don’t want to look old before your time, skin expert Dr Tanzi recommends you wash your face in the sink, so you can create the perfect water temperature first.

In an interview with The Gloss she said that in the sink: “You can gauge the temperature more effectively.

"You should use lukewarm to cold water, which is better for delicate faces.”

So if you’re one of those morning multitaskers who likes to do absolutely everything you can in the shower, take a step back. Saving your face is worth an extra minute or two.

So tomorrow turn the dial down and use a sink for your face.
